KKK SHOWCASE BEAUTY ARTIST

General Santos City – The Kompetisyon ng Kagandahan para sa Karangalan organizers proudly showcased the artists of beautifying generals and young models of the city in the hair styling and make up contest during the Kalilangan Festival Celebration.

It was a hair and make-up competition, seminar and fashion show packed into one for the benefit of the local beauty industry in the city. Shoppers were amazed of the show and the artistic sense of the stylist and make-up artist here.

Fourteen competitors for cut, color and style contest both for male and female set their models hair with colors, cut and form it to a winning style. A bridal make up competition was also staged and showcased the best make up suited for brides participated by 12 make-up artist joined the battle.

The whole day event has also staged a seminar from the trainers of Reyes Haircutters in Manila where 3 of the judges came from.

Hairstylist and make-up artist from the different salons in the city was given a venue to hasten their skills and showcase their works of art.

Ms. Donna Congson, the organizer who is also one of the owners of a chain of salons here gladly expressed here joy on the turn-out of the event. Mrs. Congson, her mother is planning for a bigger event in June, the wedding month which will be participated by artist in the whole of Mindanao.

Young generation of models together with the models of the competition took over the ramp and showed that GenSan is a wellspring of artist in many fields.

Winners received cash prize amounting to P5,000, trophy and giveaways for the overall champion. Second runner up will receive P1,000 cash, trophy and giveaways and P2,000 cash, trophy and giveaways for the first runner up respectively. (CPIO-ALJV 022509)

Suklay At Gunting during the Kalilangan Fest 2009




General Santos City – Nine hairdressers from the different salons in the city competed in the Ultimate Hair Record contest of the Filipino Hairdressers Cooperative (Fil-Hair Coop) at the atrium of Gaisano Mall as part of the celebration of Kalilangan Festival.

The Gunting and Suklay event will determine the fastest hair cutter here to compete in the national Ultimate Hairecord which will be held in Manila. Fil-Hair Coop of Ricky Reyes and his chain of salons was part of their project to indentify artist in the field of beauty and hairdressing industry.

Gensan was their first in looking for a record holder in the country. Winners will be receiving cash prizes amounting to P5,000 for second runner up, P7,000 for the first runner up and P10,000 for the champion.

Free haircut for all generals was offered to students who came and to the shopper of the said mall. During the contest, judges who are respected hairdressers in the country and winners of the similar competition checked the work of each contestant.

After each model is done, judges gave a star to the hairdresser as a proof of the number of accomplished model. Whoever has the most number of stars will be proclaimed the winners. Aside from that the competitions aim to record the most number of haircuts in one day.

Despite some hindrances the organizers were glad of the cooperation and participation of the shoppers and teens who joined as models. CPIO - ALJV 21909

UKK STEP for GenSan Youth kicks off in Sarangani HOmes Phase 1

General Santos City – Unlad Kakayahan ng Kabataan Skills Training and Enhancement Program Cum- Livelihood (UKK STEP) kicked off for the residents of Prk. Sarangani Phase 1 in Barangay San Isidro on Monday, February with more than 25 recipients.

A skills training on Building Wiring Installation will be attended by the participants for the period of 15 days. A lecture on theory and actually application of the theory will be undertaken during the duration of the training.

Like in other trainings that was conducted previously to the different barangays, they will be given certificate by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) where the trainors came from.

Mayor Jun Acharon has mentioned this in his State of the City Address that the City Government will continuously provide skills training and livelihood programs for the generals to be equipped and become productive. The Mayor strongly believes that this is one way of fighting the economic crisis of today.

Mr. Jacinto Sales, a TESDA specialist urged the trainees to finish and do well in their training. “ No one will give you training that are free since this course is offered in technical schools as well as TESDA with fee which is amounting to P5,000 or more”, he said.

He further challenged the trainees to organize themselves after the training and form a group which will service their area in Sarangani to earn a living and lessen the expenses for the repairs of their own electrical in their residence.

The training will be undertaking 3 times a week and the city government through the office of the Youth Affairs & Development will provide the needed materials for their actual training.

HL GenSan way rolls











General Santos City – Medical Schools, Health Institution, Gensan joggers, Philippine Nurses Association and the Philippines National Police joined force in the promotion of the Healthy Lifestyle to the Max campaign of the Department of Health through the Integrated City Health Service of the city government.

This campaign that focuses on 7 healthy practices like no to smoking, no to alcohol, no to illegal drugs, , eating low fat, low salt, high fiber food, preventing hypertension, engaging in physical activity and managing stress.

This happened during the simultaneous Hataw to the Max activity held on Monday February 16,2009 at the oval plaza where hundreds of generals from the above institutions in the city. Participants came as early as 5:30 in the morning to join the walking and exercise activity to be healthy.

DOH Nurse coordinator Ella Ilagan in her rationale before the Hataw proper, the program was conceptualized to fight the different deceases the causes death in the country. “ The lifestyle of most of the Filipinos today like the food we eat and the not so active body makes us vulnerable to this deceases” she said.

She even cited the common causes of death of Filipinos like diabities, heart attack, hypertension and many others are associated all with the kind of lifestyle that most of us practice. This fact is very alarming that is why DOH came up with this program, Ilagan added.

Dr. Jacinto Makilang, acting department head of the City Health Office on the otherhand recognized the participants who answered their call for the said endeavor. He also urged everyone present in the venue to practice a healthy lifestyle and live a healthy life.

It can be recalled that Mayor Jun Acharon was very proud that the producing quality human resources in this part of the country during his State of the City Address and part of it is having a healthy people and community as well. CPIO-ALJV 021909
